Over the past week, the Shoe Factory has received numerous calls and emails regarding the funding opportunity through the Career Advancement Awards from Colorado Creative Industries (CCI). I have included the complete text from the CCI website below. It should also be noted that each year the CCI designates strategic priorities and for the term 2014-2015, CCI has identified MUSIC, LITERARY AND PUBLISHING and DESIGN ARTS. All projects in all creative industry areas are eligible, but additional bonus points will be given to applicants in these strategic areas.

Career Advancement Awards support Colorado creative entrepreneurs and artists to help stimulate their commercial creative business. The goal is that awardees will achieve tangible business benefits such as increased revenue, new audiences or improved management practices.

The following list, while not inclusive of all activities for which support may be used, illustrates some possible areas of support:
  • Participate in an exhibit, festival, vendor showcase or artist residency for which participants are chosen through a competitive process or by exclusive invitation
  • Present at a conference or symposium for which presenters are chosen through a competitive process or by exclusive invitation
  • Purchase equipment and materials to expand or improve an applicant’s business
  • Enroll in professional development workshops or engage consultants and coaches to build administrative and business skills
  • Develop or upgrade technology related to business practices (e.g. online sales systems, website functionality, business analytics tools)
  • Develop promotional materials such as electronic media kits with high resolution images

To distribute support broadly throughout the creative industries, each Career Advancement annual cycle will focus on one or more specific industries. Although projects in all creative industry areas are eligible to apply, additional points will be awarded to applicants in the Strategic Priority Areas identified. In 2014 – 2015 the following are Creative Industries’ Strategic Priorities:
  • Music: Individual musicians, ensembles/bands, composers, promoters, producers, directors, for profit festivals, musical venues and audio technology.
  • Literary and Publishing: Writers (poets, fiction/nonfiction), editors, publishers, independent presses, libraries, bookstores, and literary distributors or networks.
  • Design Arts: Graphic, product and environmental designers or firms that apply artistic content to commercial products, services, and the environment.
Awards range from $500 - $2,500 and funds are paid on a reimbursement basis upon receipt of a final report and expense receipts.

Application Deadlines:
