Shoe Factory to Accept 10 New Artists

The Shoe Factory | Center for Contemporary Arts will accept 10 new artists into its special Artist in Residency Program. Artists selected for this residency program are at all stages in their careers and work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.

Applications will become available online on Monday, November 3 and will be due no later than Friday, November 21. The residency is competitive and funding is available through Colorado Creative Industries under their 2014-2015 Career Advancement Awards. The application deadline to secure funding is November 14, 2014 and this is a separate application process. The next deadline for Career Advancement Funding will be in March 2015.

The Residency Summary of Benefits is noted at the end of this posting. This unique program empowers artists and creative industries to see and realize their full potential and strive towards greater economic independence. 

The Shoe Factory will be open on Thursday, November 6 from 6-9pm for a special Fall Art Show & Benefit and also on First Friday Art Walk from 5-8pm at 123 N Main Street @ 2nd Street in Downtown Pueblo. Applications will be available

The Shoe Factory Artists in Residence become part of a community of creative individuals participating in Pueblo's dynamic art scene, allowing for exchange and collaborative relationships to develop within the artist community in The Shoe Factory. Artists selected for this residency program are at all stages in their careers and work in all media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, new media, installation, fiction and nonfiction writing, poetry, dance, music, interdisciplinary, social practice, and architecture.

- DBA (Doing Business as an Artist) classes to further understanding the business side of art.
- Participate in solo and group shows both at the Shoe Factory or at other venues
- Sell and learn the dynamics of art retail with your original works and prints at our new Shoe Factory store (open soon on Central Plaza)
- Teach, assist, support our young children in our K-12 arts education program
- Assist in the ongoing growth and development of the Shoe Factory - we want to be unique and serve the needs of Pueblo
- At the conclusion of the residency program, we will assist in the establishment of a studio, gallery or retail space that facilitates the ongoing commercial success of the artist.
